In the vast realms of nature’s bounty, 10,000 years ago, the wild grass Teosinte grew across what we now call Mexico. Today Teosinte is scientifically labeled Zea Mexicana and holds a captivating secret—it is the ancestor of the heritage corn Zea mays. Zea is cultivated using natural methods that have been passed down through generations of farmers, preserving its historic and unique genetic qualities. Teosinte’s remarkable journey transformed the course of human history. Our Zea is carefully, and sustainably cultivated by farmers in the ancient Tlaxcalan community of Ixtenco, on the slopes of Mexico’s majestic La Malinche volcano, using the traditional and biodiverse Milpa farming practice.
